Digital Smile Design

Digital Smile Design (DSD) is an advanced digital protocol for planning prosthetic treatment, allowing you to design your future smile before any procedure begins.

The method is based on a comprehensive analysis of facial features, expressions, smile dynamics, bite and dental anatomy. Unlike the traditional approach, DSD does not aim for a generic “beautiful result” but creates a personalized smile that harmoniously integrates with each patient’s unique features.

How the Procedure Works

The process begins with a detailed photo protocol and video analysis of the smile in motion. This allows the doctor to evaluate not only the teeth, but also facial expressions, lip position and overall proportions. Digital scans of the dental arches and a CT scan are performed, and all data is integrated into a digital platform to create a customized smile design.

The doctor analyzes tooth length, width and shape, the smile line, and how these elements interact with facial features. A visualization of the final result is then created, allowing the patient to see and evaluate their future smile before treatment begins.

Why DSD?

DSD helps determine the optimal treatment plan, balancing aesthetics, function and long-term predictability. If desired, the digital design can be transferred into the oral cavity as a mock-up, allowing the patient to “try on” their new smile before starting treatment.
